The first official day of winter is tomorrow (yelp!). Aside from turning up the heaters and popping on your favourite RUBY & Liam coat & knits, you can't look past a delicious Hot Chocolate to warm yourself up on a freezing day.
We've teamed up with our friends from the New Zealand based premium Dutch Cocoa Hot Chocolate company Kokoleka, to giveaway 150 of their amazing Hot Chocolate Tins to the first 150 purchases at all RUBY stores nationwide tomorrow!
We spoke to the talented founder of Kokoleka Jane de Borchgrave about where her love of Hot Chocolate came from....
The inspiration for a creating a range of great tasting drinking chocolate has been bubbling away in my head for years – not as a business idea, so much as a little obsession – I only ever want to drink really good hot chocolate. For years, I carried bars of 72% dark chocolate around in my overfilled handbag, stashing them in my desk drawer at work and hoarded them (high up and away from my children) in my treat cupboard at home, ready to drop a generous number of squares into a mug of hot milk for my daily treat.
After 20 years working for corporates in marketing and marketing related roles, the opportunity for a change came up and I thought, ‘I’m going to do this and it will either ‘fly or die', so I jumped into a place of little income, late nights, early mornings, working two jobs, making lots of ‘learning’ mistakes and lots of sleepless nights and nearly three years I have a delicious smooth Hot Chocolate in beautiful packaging and a realisation of a great idea.
What are your favourite winter activities?
I love going to a movie in the middle of a rainy day without feeling guilty, a run in my local park on a briskly cold day and being inside in my own space to solve all my questions with brilliant ideas!
Jane shared with us one of her family's favourite Chocolate Truffle recipes...
These truffles are super easy, with no cooking required, and you can use any one of the four fabulous Kokoleka Drinking Chocolate flavours (Warm Ginger, Peppermint, Hot Chilli & Classic Dark).
You will need
- 1 packet of plain biscuits crushed (Superwines are perfect)
- ¼ cup of Sprite
- 150g Butter (melted)
- 1 tsp. Vanilla Essence
- ½ cup Icing Sugar
- 1 heaped tbsp. Kokoleka (be generous!)
- Shredded Coconut
- Put all of the ingredients (except the Coconut) into a bowl and mix together.
- Use a teaspoon to scoop out a portion of mixture.
- Roll them by hand into spheres before rolling them in the grated Coconut.
- Refrigerate for around an hour.
