Comedy Festival 2013: Rose Matafeo

The 21st NZ International Comedy Festival starts today and here at RUBY we're really looking forward to seeing one of our favourite acts Rose Matafeo! We spoke to the lovely Rose about her involvement with the festival and show The Rose Matafeo Variety Hour (which we think you should all head along to!) that will run from Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th of May at The Basement.

Rose Matafeo

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Rose Matafeo and sometimes I tell jokes and sometimes I'm on TV and other times I'm pursuing my true passion of mosaic art.

Tell us a little bit about The Rose Matafeo Variety Hour...

It's an hour of me doing a variety of things that I hope are fun and/or funny. I sort of called it the Rose Matafeo Variety Hour so I had the freedom to do whatever I liked!

What can we expect?

Some jokes, hopefully. Roller skating, definitely. A 45 minutes pyrotechnics display, although we're still waiting on OSH to approve this.

How many years have you been involved in the Comedy festival and what do you love most about taking part in it?

I've been performing in the festival for 6 years now. Festival time is such an amazing couple of weeks where you not only get to watch a lot of your friends be funny, but also are introduced to some amazing international comics. I can't say that I don't dread show week though!

What other shows will you be heading along to in the festival this year and why?

I met Josie Long when she first came to the festival when I was 16 and she has been such an inspiration for me comedically, and just in general! She is amazingly funny and smart, and her shows always leave you feeling awesome. I can't explain it, just go see her! Oh, and see Dr Brown as well! I'm also looking forward to all of the other Billy T nominees - Joseph Moore, Eli Matthewson, Tom Furniss and Pax. And of course my other two favourite guys, Guy Williams and Joseph Harper!

We've got one double pass to giveaway for the opening night of The Rose Matafeo Variety Hour show on Tuesday 14th of May at 7pm. To enter, email us at rubymail@rubynz.com with your name, city and why you'd love to head along. Entries close on Friday 10th of May.
