Valentine's Day: Mino & Alex

Love is in the air and with Valentine's Day and the abundance of roses fast approaching we sat down to chat with one of our favourite couple, the ever-stylish Alex and Mino from street style blog FOUREYES about their fateful meeting, favourite things and Valentine's Day surprises.

Alex & Mino

Alex

Who are you & what do you do?

I'm Alex and I work for a European airline in marketing and I run a fantastic blog called FOUREYES along with Mino, Chin and Danny.

How did you both meet?

We met in Seoul, Korea one fateful night! A friend offered me three tickets to a party that was being held at the W Hotel in Seoul. I was very tempted not to go as I was super tired that day but something made me do it. That night I met Mino and from that day on, we have pretty much been glued at the hip.

What do you love most about Mino?

He is confident, generous and spontaneous - there is never a dull moment with Mino around!

How will you be celebrating Valentine's Day this year?

That's a secret because Mino likes surprises!

It makes me happy when Mino...

Is happy.

The best thing Mino cooks is...

Kimchi Fried Rice.

Mino

Who are you & what do you do?

I'm Mino and I work in retail management. I am also a fashion blogger and photographer for FOUREYES.

What do you love most about Alex?

He is caring, warm and appreciative of the small things.

Dream Valentine's Day present?

Two tickets to Paris! I love surprises! wink wink.

What's your favourite piece in Alex's wardrobe?

It's not so much of a favourite piece that I have but more of a favourite look. I love it when he wears simple, classic outfits. If I had to choose an item though, probably his Sergio Rossi brogues.

The best thing he cooks is...

Steak and salad! haha! He is more of a baker than a cook and he makes a great carrot cake.

What do you both love doing together?

We love to travel! We always try to have our next trip lined up so we always have something to look forward to. The next trip for us will be Australian Fashion Week in April and then hopefully Europe in September.

Ruby Loves Foureyes the Book

Our good friends and the seriously stylish guys behind FOUREYES Alex, Mino, Chin & Danny are set to release their very first FOUREYES Book in Auckland tomorrow night.

To celebrate, we had a chat to them about their latest venture from digital to print....

FOUREYES

How did the FOUREYES book come about?

We had previously thought how amazing it would be to some day publish our own book so when Beatnik publishing asked us if we would be interested in putting one together, we jumped at the chance! We love how the format of a book gives our work a completely different and tactile quality.

FOUREYES

Tell us a bit more about what we can expect to see...

FOUREYES the book is really an extension of what we do online - it's a collection of our favourite street style images that we have shot over the past 3 years. It's also a celebration of New Zealand's unique sense of style in a format that will hopefully last forever and be just as interesting in years to come. It captures a moment in New Zealand's history. Unlike the blog, we have asked some of our subjects for quotes to accompany their images and we feel this adds a personal insight into their style and an extra element to the book.

FOUREYES

Who helped to bring the FOUREYES book together?

The thing we have loved about working with Beatnik publishing is that they gave us almost 100% creative control so FOUREYES the book is really exactly what we had envisaged. We did the photography, selected the images, wrote the text and did the graphic design (Danny is luckily a graphic designer by trade!). This project was much more involved than we had ever imagined but we don't regret a second of it as we now have a book that we truly treasure.

FOUREYES

What was the design brief you gave them?

It was more a brief that we imposed on ourselves! You only have one chance to get it right and we wanted to design a book that was big but not too big, had text without being too wordy, that really portrayed New Zealand style at its best and that would look good on coffee tables for years and year to come.

FOUREYES

What are your favourite looks featured in the book?

A: I love the shots we took of Lindy in a super simple suit in an amazing gold and black combination that had the most beautiful fit that suited her perfectly.

FOUREYES

C: A look I love very much is that by a lady named Jamie. She was head to toe in simple vintage pieces but the result was a captivating Forties look she improved with immaculate make up and a beautiful blue hairstyle. I love it when someone gives new life to old things in an imaginative way.

FOUREYES

D: A shot we took of illustrator Kelly Thompson a while ago is one of my absolute favourites. The colour looks amazing. Her hair was this intense yellow at the time which was perfectly matched to the colour of her jacket (which was by RUBY!).

FOUREYES

Mino: One of my favourite photographs is of a woman called Jennie. I love the silhouette of her outfit and also how she has used accessories to lift and further modernise her look.

FOUREYES

What city do you think has the best style?

That is a very hard question! Each city has its own take on style and that is the very thing we love about travel. In New York, people are fearless and we love that and in Paris, style is effortlessly chic which we also admire! Having said that, New Zealand definitely holds its own when it comes to unique style so we are proud to be part of such a creative nation.

FOUREYES

Who do you think is the best dressed Aucklander?

That is also a very hard question! There are SO many - look through FOUREYES and you will see what we mean! Favourites though would include: Kylie Cooke, Karen Walker, Bronwyn Williams and Steven Park to name a few.

FOUREYES

What is next for FOUREYES?!

One thing we have learned during our time as FOUREYES bloggers is that we never know what to expect next. We would love to work on more collaborations and projects with brands that we love, maybe try our hand at design or styling and we also want to continue to showcase New Zealand style on more international platforms.

We have one copy of the amazing FOUREYES book (valued at $84.99) to give away to one of our lucky RUBY fans. To enter, simply head to this link and type the giveaway code RUBYLOVESFOUREYES. Entries close next Wednesday 20th November at 9.00am NZT.

Good luck! x

Part 2: Foureyes on Autumn/Winter 2013

With all of our snuggly RUBY & Liam winter coats in store and an autumnal chill in the air, it's perfect timing to chat to Alex & Mino from FOUREYES, in our two part series, about their favourite autumn/winter looks.

Alex

I like finding people who have a modern twist on classic because true style is timeless. My favourite wintery looks that we've shot are:

Bella

Bella's jacket is out of this world combining different leathers and fur; necessities for a complete Winter wardrobe! I also really like the pop of colour the bag brings to an otherwise neutral look.

Bella

Bronwyn

First of all, blue is one of my favourite colours when it comes to clothes. It's easy to wear and it suits pretty much everyone. Bronwyn's look is cool, easy and casual but her shoes and accessories give her an added level of sophistication. In general, I'm not a huge fan of caps but this one goes so perfectly with her look.

Bronwyn

Aneta

I love the way Aneta has used a pop of colour without it overtaking the whole look. I also love the large collar that breaks up the colour and balances the look and the simplicity of the block colours.

Aneta

Kylie

Kylie has not only used accessories including this great scarf, sunglasses and bracelets to put together this eye-catching outfit but has also used a strong colour element to make a statement on the streets.

Kylie

What is your favourite piece from the RUBY A/W 2013 collection?

I love the RUBY Cupid Trousers the RUBY Roxy Foxy Stripe dress.

Mino

I like seeing people who are confident in what they are wearing and who can express their personality through their style - to me, this is what's fabulous! I love the following looks:

Olivia

The play on textures in Olivia's look are great from the coat to the mesh top and tassels on her bag. The colour of this look brings some warmth into an otherwise dreary Winter!

Oliva

Laura

Just because it's getting colder, doesn't mean that we need to restrict ourselves to being completely covered up. I love the colourful matching floral shorts and blazer Laura is wearing.

Laura

Zoe

I love how Zoe's outfit uses a lace texture and also a print to create a multi-dimentional look that doesn't look over-done. It's simple but really striking at the same time.

Zoe

What is your favourite piece from the RUBY A/W 2013 collection?

The RUBY Pretty Thing Sweater and Mr Jones Coat are stand outs for me!
