The Periodic: The Art of Awkward Flower Making

The Periodic is a perfectly crafted and curated publication that celebrates local creativity - from makers, creators, products & people.

Last month we spent the morning making beautiful flower arrangements with the talented trio behind The Periodic for the winter issue. Amazing florist and long-time RUBY collaborator Lu Diamond taught us how to master the art of awkward flower arranging at one of our favourite local haunts, Orphans Kitchen. It was the perfect morning, spent crafting bouquets aplenty with great company.

We've got a few snaps from the day to share with you....

Lu Diamond: Christmas Wrapping

We can't believe how quickly Christmas has come around this year! No doubt you'll be finishing off your Christmas shopping this weekend and then there's the added task of wrapping your gifts beautifully (if you haven't had yours gift wrapped with our limited edition Christmas wrapping paper already!). This month, our go-to florist Lu Diamond shows us just how easy it is to make your own wrapping at home.....

You don't need all those rolls of slippery red and silver wrapping paper to get you into the gift wrapping spirit! Grab yourself a roll of craft paper, ribbon with some blooms & greenery to match and you will have yourself the prettiest gift to give this year for Christmas.

Mini Greenery Wreath

These are extra special as they can be hung up and savoured into the New Year - two in one gift special!

Lu Diamond 11

  1. Shape a perfect circle with soft wire and secure with green floral tape, if you don't have this masking tape or duck tape will do the trick.

  2. Prune yourself some long lasting greenery to wrap and weave around your wreath frame. Ruscus works perfectly as it lasts for weeks without water.

  3. Add in some moss or flowers and tie it to your gift.

Mini Floral Bouquet

If you like pretty and pops of colour try a mini bouquet for the top of your gift.

Lu Diamond 10

  1. Wire or tie your stems together, if you have floral tape cover up the ends to help keep the flowers fresh. If you don't have tape, prep all of the blooms and tie on before you head off to your Christmas party.

  2. Sparkly gold ribbon on your DIY paper will get you extra pudding and Christmas kisses
