In the latest installment of our MY CITY feature, we caught up with one of our favourite friends living abroad, Lucy Guernier who we are proud to call a RUBY girl from way back! Lucy is one half of Stolen Publications, a bi-annual publication that started from wanting to create a platform for talented creatives to be discovered and get their work seen. Lucy currently calls Melbourne home, so we had a chat to her about her favourite things to do in a city known for being Australia's cultural hub!
I was originally born in Auckland, but my family moved around a bit. We've lived in Tauranga, Pauanui, and I went to university in Wellington. After my degree, I decided to move to Melbourne. I've been here for three years, and love the place. The culture, the food, and the people make Melbourne so easy to live in.
We are so lucky to have the Botanical Gardens in the middle of the city, with the most amazing view. And with a 3.8km running track around it, it’s the perfect place to run before or after work.
I love that Melbourne has fresh food markets, and not just on the weekends. You can do your whole weeks shop here and walk away with the most amazing produce, for so cheap. I can't keep myself away from the fresh fruit, too good!
I love going to yoga at One and then heading to Pressed Juices around the corner. Their juices are cold pressed and made daily, with the most incredible combinations.
My House
It comes with flatting that you ‘slum’ it for the first few years, but we were so lucky to find the most gorgeous house in Richmond. It’s so close to everything, and the whole street blossoms in spring.
It can be just as cold in winter as it is hot in summer here in Melbourne! Nothing beats curling up on the couch with this in hand. By far the most incredible chocolate by Melburnians! It's completely raw, and uses coconut sugar instead of cane sugar. Healthy chocolate? By the bucketload please!
An open air cinema. On a rooftop. In the middle of Melbourne. Need I say more?
The best Vietnamese restaurant (that I’ve been to) in Melbourne. Their soft shell crab in coconut sauce and salted caramel donuts with coconut ice-cream are my two absolute favourites. Almost everything on the menu is gluten free too!
Camberwell Markets
If you are after vintage clothing, furniture or random things in general at bargain prices, visit the Camberwell markets every Sunday. Or, if you want to sell your clothes and make a buck, get a stall there. But be prepared to wake up at 4am!
This magical place is like a fairy cave. Filled with every crystal you’ve never heard of, it’s tucked away near the Dandenong Ranges just out of Melbourne.
We can't wait to get back to Melbourne for a long weekend!
We're in love with the beautiful new issue of Fashion Quarterly Magazine.
