Sunburnt deserts and a hit of retro Californian glamour were designer Deanna Didovich’s inspiration for Diamonds, RUBY’s covetable Spring/Summer 2014 collection.
With its sparkling swimming pools and manicured lawns, Palm Springs has long been an oasis in the desert. Perhaps its most famous and fabulous resident was eternal icon Elizabeth Taylor, who in her Hollywood heyday - with her chic poolside style and taste for diamonds - is our ultimate RUBY muse.
Taylor’s inimitable influence can be felt throughout the range, from playful vintage-inspired cuts - slim, cropped pants, pencil skirts, breezy lounge sets, dreamy off-the-shoulder tops and dresses - to sweet florals, gingham, a python sweat shirting and a pop of vivid azalea pink.
Our RUBY SS14 accessories pay homage to the silver-screen legend, with molten gold chain necklaces and belts set with coins, high-waisted bikinis, strappy wedge sandals and a sweeping wide-brimmed hat that is set to be a star adornment for the season.
While the resort paradise has long been considered the diamond of the Coachella Valley desert, the surrounding landscapes - vast, spiritual and untouched spaces like Joshua Tree National Park - are jewels of a different sort, and held equal attraction for Deanna, who translated the slow-burning natural beauty into a palette of peach, dusty brown and burnished gold, delicate wild prints and soft blue denim.
RUBY’s contemporary aesthetic comes through for Spring/Summer 2014 in a classic sporty mood that lends balance to the more overtly feminine elements - clean lines and cool shapes in perfectly slouchy or subtly structured fabrications, timeless stripes and refined hues of grey marle, washed blue, ivory, navy and white.
