Summer Essentials: Eleanor Pendleton

Australian beauty expert Eleanor Pendleton is the fresh-faced babe behind Gritty Pretty, one of our go-to beauty blogs. Fresh from launching Gritty Pretty's first online magazine (which we suggest you check out!), we caught up with Eleanor to chat about her summer beauty tips, regimes and essentials.......

Three beauty items you can't live without in summer...

  • Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF 30 is my go-to daily sunscreen because it doesn't create an oil finish under my foundation. Most weekends I try to go bare faced, which means I'll opt for ModelCo's Daily Face Matte SPF 50+, which has an amazing built in balm that's perfect for summer.

  • CLINIQUE Chubby Stick Cheer Colour Balm give cheeks a fresh, dewy finish which I love for summer. My favourite shade has to be Robust Rhubarb!

  • SK-II Facial Treatment UV Protection nourishes my skin thanks to added Pitera! It also offers SPF 15 protection while remaining completely lightweight and non-greasy.

Number one beauty tip for summer...

Always wear SPF and keep hydrated! I know it's not original but there's a reason why you have read and heard this so many times before.

Do you have any homemade summer beauty tips?

Coconut oil works a treat as a body moisturiser, eye makeup remover and leave-in hair mask. When using it in your hair, remember to shampoo thoroughly afterwards.

What new beauty innovations are you looking forward to trialing over the coming warmer months?

I'm looking forward to testing Rationale's Luminizing Serum SPF 50+ which is a foundation, serum and SPF hybrid, dream!

What do you think is going to be the next big beauty trend?

Cushion BB creams – they're going gangbusters in Asia right now so I expect we'll see those infiltrate the Australian and New Zealand beauty markets within the next 5 years.

What's on your summer playlist?

Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk

Boy & Bear - Part Time Believer

The Griswolds - Heart of a Lion

Tropical Zombie - R.A.C

Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way

Milky Chance - Stolen Dance

Arcade Fire - Wake Up

How do you stray active over summer?

I've never been a runner or someone who loves the gym but reformer pilates is my escape. I do 3 - 4 classes a week and it's my one hour to completely switch off. I also really love walking and often go for coastal walks as I live so close to the beach.

Favourite summer cocktail...

Mojitos! They're refreshing and down far too easy.

Secret summer beach escape...

Curl Curl Beach in Sydney - it's my local and never crowded.

What is your signature summer dish?

Chilli lime prawn, mango and avocado salad!

What is your advice heading into 2015?

Live each day as if it were your last.

Our summer playlists just got better and our Christmas wishlists have definitely gotten longer. Thanks Eleanor! x

What are your plans for Christmas Day?

Attending Midnight Mass with my family. This always gets us in the Christmas spirit, I love the carols and the candlelight. On Christmas morning we wake up early and open presents while feasting on coffee and croissants. Around lunchtime we congregate at my nana's house with extended family and friends. I love my nana's, especially in the summer, because she has the most beautiful garden! We usually shift a whole lot of tables together outside so that we can all drink and feast in the sun.

What's on your Christmas wishlist this year?

The Joshua Short. I've had my eye on these shorts for some time now. I absolutely love the linen/cotton fabric. Such a luxurious fabric for the warmer summer months. The design of them reminds me of something Keira Knightly's character in Atonement would wear. I love that they are fun and flirty but still have a bit of length to them. It can sometimes be hard to find a staple pair of summer shorts these days.

Most memorable Christmas Day....

A couple of years ago my family decided to get out of Auckland for Christmas. We spent the day on the beach in Noosa - feasting, swimming, reading and sunbathing. It was so nice just spending time with my immediate family.

Favourite Christmas day food?

Ooh I don't have just one! Definitely Christmas ham but I love Christmas pudding as well. It has to be freshly steamed and drizzled in cream. It's so exciting because I only get this once a year. Nothing can beat my aunty's Christmas pudding either!

What’s the most awkward present you've ever received?

One year an aunt gave me a terrible Christmas album and then made me play it for the rest of the day.

What will you be wearing on Christmas day this year?

The Cabana Gown. I love to wear a special dress on Christmas Day. To me, this dress is angelic and I feel so special floating around in it. It's also a dress that I can easily wear from day to night and I don't want to have to waste time changing my outfit on Christmas Day!

Thanks to our friends at Misa Christmas Trees for their amazing location x
