The dancer doesn’t abandon her lightness and grace after hours. She carries it with her, pulling at her ballet bun and abandoning pointe shoes to greet the sidewalk.
RUBY Tonight, Tonight, our NZ Fashion Week 2015 ready-to-wear collection, welcomes the off-duty dancer, promising as much beauty and fun in her wardrobe as is found on stage. No grand plies required.
A photograph by Erwin Blumenfeld of Russian-born ballerina, Alexandra Danilova, anchors our latest range. Our RUBY designer, Deanna was inspired by the unguarded intimacy of the portrait and was drawn to the image’s peek-backstage nature.
Silhouettes appeal to a prima’s love of ethereal attire and transitional layers, while staying true to our youthful spirit. The tutu takes gravity’s lead with the floor length, star-spangled Celesta Skirt, more suited to post-performance nights out.
Elsewhere, thick crossover straps and wrap detail hint at a life lived in leotards, and our sheer split-side pantsuit appeals to those who deem tables just as appropriate for dancing on as the stage.
Textures appeal in their sheer variety. On one hand, a delicate rose-print fabric, and elsewhere we see bohemian embroidered denim. Meanwhile, the colour palette sets light against dark. Sugarplum lilac is spotted on a pea coat, while black, camel and touches of metallic feature elsewhere.
A swirling paisley print commands attention on our Romantic Spark Dress. Named after the passionate and feminine fragrance from Impulse, our NZFW 2015 sponsor. The dress hints at a sensory love story of wild violets and earthy notes.
