“Good friends make you face the truth about yourself and you do the same for them, as painful, or as pleasurable, as the truth may be” - Corinne Day
The intense spirit of female friendship captured Deanna Didovich’s attention when designing RUBY spring 2016, No Drama. We are reminded that real friendship is enduring and will always offer never-ending support.
No one demonstrates devotion to their own clan of cool like Corinne Day. The late photographer captured intimate portrayals of London youth during the nineties, preserving the decade’s raw and honest vibe with her work.
Day’s photograph of British model Cecilia Chancellor for Vogue best encapsulates the mood this season. Romantic off-the-shoulder ruffles, draped cowl-necks and tight-fitting wrap bodices are set against more boyish silhouettes. It’s a lesson in low-key layering; fitted with loose, flimsy with the substantial. Shrug a heavy knit cardigan over a slip dress; pair a figure-hugging mini skirt with a slouchy top. Add with an air of insouciance and head out in search of fun.
Textures reference a British sensibility, from tweed check and sueded silk to soft velveteen that appears on a double-breasted blazer. Elsewhere there’s pastel peach sweatshirting and a star print embroidered onto cotton drill, conjuring up the spirit of after-dark adventure.
Colour dances from moonshine blue and carnation pink towards more grounding oatmeal, ivory and navy shades. A psychedelic poppy floral commands attention as the signature print this season, in honour of our London girl’s wild streak.
No Drama celebrates sisterhood, an ode to the partner-in-crime who features in all of your best stories.
