Far away in a magical land filled with In-N-Out-Burger and the Dodgers lives a very special vintage store; Penny Lane Vintage. It’s owner and very chic girl boss, Nanor Momdjian, opened the magical store after a long love affair with vintage, and a boss who encouraged her to pursue her dreams.

Nanor waved her magic wand once again when she sourced our collection of vintage Levi’s. We caught up with the queen herself to find out her preferred brunch menu, favourite ice cream flavour and why she fell in love with vintage in the first place.

When did your love for vintage begin?

My love for vintage came from the first fashion blogger I ever followed, Karla Deras. Back in high school, I would always visit Karla's blog, Karla's Closet. I really admired her style and vision; she seamlessly combined vintage and contemporary pieces. Each ensemble would be composed so beautifully - I couldn't help but fall completely in love vintage! The most surreal part is, Our paths eventually crossed as I interned for her label, The Line by K.

What is your favourite piece of vintage that you’ve ever owned? Probably my 1970s Nike T-shirt and my redline Levis.

Tell us a little bit about where you source your vintage from and the story behind our Levi’s?

I source vintage from all over! My go to spots are thrift stores, of course, but I also love to participate in eBay auctions, it's so thrilling! The vintage Levi's and scarves I sourced for RUBY were from a vintage wholesale warehouse in Los Angeles, I went through about 300 pairs of jeans and 1,000 scarves and picked the absolute best of the bunch for RUBY. Sourcing vintage is like a treasure hunt for me, I'm always looking for gems!

Why do you love vintage Levi’s?

Levi's go above and beyond just being jeans to me. They exude emotion and feelings. I feel an instant boost of confidence when I put my 501s on and get ready to tackle my day. No matter where I go, I always feel on trend and confident in my vintage Levi's. That is why I love them so much.

Who is your ultimate girl crush?

Rihanna, hands down! She's the ultimate girl boss and a fashion icon.

You’re out for brunch, do you choose sweet or savoury?

I have to have both! I enjoy a good balance.

What’s your favourite movie quote?

"I always tell the girls never take it seriously, if you never take it seriously you never get hurt, if you never get hurt you always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends." - Penny Lane, "Almost Famous" (also who I named my business after).

What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

It's a tie between coconut and matcha. I believe it's the perfect combination - sweet and a little savory!

Thanks Nanor! x
