By-product

By-product

Garment has been tagged because the fabric has 50% or more by-product content.

By-product is what we would define as something that is produced from waste as a result of making something else.

For example, leather may be a by-product from the farming industry, or vegan leathers may use food scraps from the food industry. Using by-product fibres reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and oceans- turning waste into new products.

Garment has been tagged because the fabric has 50% or more recycled content.

Using recycled fibres, whether that be natural or synthetic reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and oceans. We often refer to the recycled content as pre and post consumer waste. Pre-consumer waste is usually leftover waste from production. Post-consumer waste may be end of life waste like clothing, industrial waste and plastic bottles.

Recycled content has a lower impact on the environment as we are not taking new resources from the Earth- we are turning waste into new products.

Organic

Organic

Garment has been tagged because the fabric has 50% or more recycled content.

Organic farming practices means that the plant is grown without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilisers which can harm the health of farmers and local communities as well as degrading the soil.

Supporting the regeneration of soil is important for addressing global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss. According to the Global Organic Textile Standard, growing organically requires less energy and water use than conventional ways. When fabric is manufactured without using hazardous chemicals, factory workers and the environment are protected. When there are no harmful residues in the end product, consumers are protected.

Washless

Wash less. Some clothing benefits more from being aired out, such as cashmere or wool sweaters, rather than subjected to frequent washing. And less washing means less water use and electricity. Who doesn’t love doing less laundry!
