Hongi shares with us her experience while working within the realm of social media & about the importance of representation.
"As new technology enables more of us to express our true selves, I am so excited to see more of me, more of you, everywhere."
We no longer need producers, directors, executives, or even expensive equipment to tell a compelling and interesting story.
Most of us grew up not seeing ourselves in the world around us. It made our imaginations small. Although these days it seems we're constantly speaking about screen time, downtime, and unplugging from our phones and devices, the upside is that amongst the flood of media are inspiring and beautiful stories being told for the first time. I believe the more we all create and share, the more the world grows closer together.
I don't mean that we all need to be content creators. Sometimes viewing, listening, and being open-minded is just as important as speaking.
An influencer used to be someone who needed to fit a certain aesthetic, a box that most of us can't seem to fit in. The new wave of creators are exploding this box by bringing learning, joy, empathy, and authenticity to their content. This gives me hope that as the rest of the world catches up, we see more representation, more understanding in every facet of our lives. That we consume books, TV, movies that tell stories never told before.
