“WORKS HARD, KNOWS HOW TO PARTY”

RUBY is a community-driven company. We thrive on aiming high, nailing it, and having a good time in the process.

We have an iterative working style, and are dedicated to honestly reflecting on how we are performing, celebrating our successes and working out how we can improve.

The locations of our IRL stores are ones where we love to hang out, and our shiny new RUBY HQ is something we are both proud of, and excited to develop.

CLOTHING IS VALUABLE

We really care about the work that we do, and believe that it contributes to the communities we are part of.

We want team members who can imagine a flourishing future for RUBY, and our communities, and have the determination to bring their ideas to life.

WE ALL BELONG HERE

We are committed to having a team of Rubettes who represent the communities we are part of, and at the same time we know that we operate in a society that is inequitable.

Each individual person is a constellation of different groups and life experiences. It is our job to attract people who fundamentally believe in, and will contribute meaningfully to, the work that we do, AND to ensure the work environment is one where they thrive, through training, good processes and robust feedback loops.

The dismantling of conscious and unconscious biases is part of our continued work programme, and requires active participation from all team members at all levels. We have, for example, a Salary Matrix which we use to work out what each of our Rubettes are paid. Factors taken into account are the level of responsibility of the role, the nature of the work, the time served at RUBY, and the level of past experience.

YUP, WE'RE A FAMILY BUSINESS

The care and love that comes from being a family-owned and operated brand is woven into our DNA.

Finance Business Partner

We are looking for a full-time Finance Business Partner to join the RUBY, De Vere Apparel (DVA) and DVP team, based on-site at our Grey Lynn Head Office. RUBY and DVA are community-driven businesses. We thrive on aiming high, nailing it, and having a good time in the process. We work in an iterative way, reflecting honestly on how we’re performing, celebrating wins, and always asking how we can do better. We’re looking for someone who can help shape a flourishing future for our businesses and communities, and who has the judgement, resilience and follow-through to contribute to making that future real. As the senior finance leader in the business, this role sits on the Executive Team and reports directly to the General Manager. It plays a key role in protecting the financial health of the business, improving decision-making, and helping the company perform with greater clarity, discipline and confidence.

Purpose of the Role

The Finance Business Partner leads the finance function across RUBY, DVA and DVP, while acting as a trusted commercial partner to the General Manager, Executive Team and Board.

This role combines critical thinking with strong execution. Turning financial information into commercially useful insight while also ensuring core finance outputs are delivered accurately, on time, and to a high standard.

Strategic thinking and resilience are especially important in a dynamic fashion retail environment where cash discipline, trading performance, and timely decision-making are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the finance function across the group and contribute as a member of the Executive Team.
  • Deliver accurate and timely Management Accounts, Board reporting, cashflow forecasting, and other core financial outputs.
  • Provide commercially grounded analysis that improves decision-making, challenges assumptions, and supports business performance.
  • Lead short- and long-term cashflow planning and management, including foreign exchange exposure, payments, Accounts Receivable, and working capital oversight.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure the integrity of financial data across the group.
  • Partner with leaders across the business on budgeting, forecasting, reforecasting, planning, and performance.
  • Lead, coach and support the Finance Team to deliver high-quality work to a deadline.
  • Strengthen systems, reporting and ways of working so the business can operate with greater clarity, speed and control.
  • Use sound judgement in the adoption of AI and other new technologies, ensuring they improve thinking, delivery and efficiency rather than creating distraction, unnecessary complexity or weakened controls.

What Success Looks Like

  • The GM, Board and Exec Team have easy visibility of financial performance, cash position and key risks.
  • The FBP is a trusted collaborator on the Executive Team, bringing clear, commercially grounded insight to make better decisions, navigate trade-offs, and drive stronger business performance.
  • The Finance Team brings a positive, and solutions-focused energy to the business, building trust and confidence across teams.
  • Management Accounts and Board reporting are accurate, timely and commercially useful.
  • Cash is managed with discipline, foresight and sound judgement.
  • The Finance Team performs well, meets deadlines, and continues to grow in capability.
  • Systems and processes become stronger, simpler and more reliable over time.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

An excellent critical thinker who can work through complexity, identify what matters, and apply strong commercial judgement.

Reliable, with a strong track record of accurate and on-time delivery.

Resilient, with the ability to operate effectively and with agility in a fast-moving retail environment.

A strong communicator who can influence across all levels of the business.

A positive leader, who enjoys building financial capability and confidence in others.

Thoughtful and discerning in the use of AI and new technologies, with the ability to identify what will genuinely improve the business and what is likely to be noise or distraction.

Requirements:

  • Right to work in New Zealand
  • Experience as a Finance Business Partner
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or alternative

If you want to play a key role on the Executive Team shaping the financial future of two growing New Zealand brands, and be part of a team that values ambition, creativity and community, we’d love to hear from you.
