RUBY x Beabea's 16.08.24

We sat down with Beabea’s founder, Sarah, to chat to her more on the vision behind Beabea’s and their space as we head into our own refit…

What was the vision behind Beabea’s?

Sarah: Our vision behind Beabea’s was to create a neighbourhood bakery that serves fresh takes on kiwi classics using both modern and traditional baking techniques.

What was important to you when creating your Beabea’s space?

Sarah: We’re super lucky to be in such a beautiful old building and we really wanted to showcase that with our fit-out, and let the tiles do the talking. It was really important that the space be super functional and durable, we plan on being here a while, so there’s a lot of stainless and galvanised steel. We also really wanted to showcase the baking process so we went for a really open plan set up. We want our customers to see and feel a part of that.

At RUBY, we’re all about putting a fresh spin on our favourites, introducing ~ the RUBY x Beabea’s Pink Bun. Is this something you consider within your menu at Beabea’s?

Sarah: Fresh spins on classics is very much our thing too! We try to recreate things that we grew up eating, we love seeing our customers take a trip down memory lane.

For the hospitality (& retail) industry, it is a tricky time to say the least. What do you see is the key to moving forward as a business?

Sarah: Our approach moving forward is to keep being super consistent with the quality of our product, we’re always looking for ways to improve.

A lil shoutout - what are your top 3 favourite local food spots at the moment?

Sarah: We’re so lucky with the selection here in Westmere, it’s hard to keep it to three! We love a post work beer and nibble next door at Ragtag, salads from Catroux and the freshly made pastas at Stracci.
