At RUBY, we recognise that sometimes you just need a day to yourself. In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week last week, we wanted to introduce you to a little initiative we have here at RUBY ~ a day made for the duvet...
Duvet Day is a benefit that we offer to permanent full-time salaried staff. Dreamt up by our matriarch, Christine Sharma, it’s a day where you just need a DAY, a day to yourself, a day to lie in bed, to rest, to mull, or do some self-care. We all have those days where we just need a day to prioritise ourselves and recharge, but it doesn’t technically feel like a “sick” day. This is when you would use a Duvet Day.
We caught up with some of our RUBY team to see how they spent their Duvet Day this year:
Abi, Digital Manager + Stylist
This year I spent my duvet day with Family, coming together to celebrate my partner's mother's 1-year passing. Her school reopened their school garden in her honour, and we had a picnic at the beach.
Saffron, HR Business Partner
I started my Duvet Day with a walk around the Viaduct, followed by a nap in the sun (much needed). Spent an hour on the phone catching up with my friend in Canada (ILY Soph), treated myself to a solo coffee at Honey Sundays and ticked off a little life admin. The perfect mix of doing things and doing absolutely nothing.
Emma, Art Director
This year I took my duvet day on my dad's birthday! Dad passed away last April, so being able to spend his first birthday without him, with my family was very important to me. My mum, sisters and I spent the morning going on a big walk around One Tree Hill then we spent the afternoon making his favourite food for dinner + dessert! Spinach and Ricotta pasta shells with Crème Brûlée.
Amber, RUBY Ponsonby Assistant Manager
For my duvet day I took myself out for breakfast to a French bakery!
A reminder to check in with yourself and those around you. A little rest can go a long way.
